Winner of Jindal Prize - 2011 for Education - with Emphasis on Moral Upliftment

Rishi Valley Education Centre, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh has developed a Multi-Grade-Multi-Level Methodology (MGML) education programme with Activity Based Learning (ABL) for elementary education.  In view of the widely acknowledged fact, that there is no co-relation between age and competency level in majority of the schools in rural India, MGML teaching methodology has been developed  to address this core issue for educating students in rural schools.

Every class room, in this methodology represents a wide spectrum of achievement levels, the classroom virtually functions as an elementary school in miniature with one teacher in attendance.  The problem of non uniform learning levels has been addressed by augmenting and in certain cases even substituting the language, mathematics and environmental science textbooks with a series of graded cards and pictorial graphics called ‘RIVER Learning Ladders’.  While students, working in groups and individually set their own pace for advancing through various levels of a subject, the teacher facilitates the learning process.

MGML methodology of teaching has been implemented in 37,000 schools in Tamil Nadu, 29500 schools in Chhatisgarh and , 30,000 schools in Karnataka. In Andhra Pradesh this methodology called ‘Sneh Bala’ has been introduced in cooperation with UNICEF.  The ABL Methodology has been implemented in 5000 primary schools in all the 50 districts of Madhya Pradesh.
Rishi Valley Education Centre has received the Global Development Network Award (2004) for the most innovative development project.

‘Jindal Prize – 2011’ in the field of  ‘Education – with Emphasis on Moral Upliftment’ with a cash prize of Rs. 1 Crore is awarded to M/s. Rishi Valley Education Centre for their innovation of MGML methodology of teaching which has already been adopted in a number of states successfully.
